 to generate unique id

i want to generate unique id in database sql server 2005 such as 'as122','as123'....n but this unique id should not be shown in the front tool,if fetch then i should be on the application.

Go to this url and download the dll.

You can find code sample and try that way to generate your unique code.

we can get unique id for Int.(I hope its not possible for char)

Simply open ur database ---> in the object explorer window on right hand side,choose your table ---->Right click on the table--->Click on design--->Select your column on the top---> in the column properties window----> go to identity Specification--->expand it---->and change IS IDENTITY to yes---<then you can see identity increment and identity seed--->chnage the values as you need.
