 displaying message while DB updation

Hi ,
I would like to display which exact records is in update state
let I have fired an update query to DB from UI.That query is going to update250000 no of records whcih may will take some time but end user want to see whcih records is in update state in X/Y format.
X- curent record where update is in progress. say 1530
Y - total no of records to be updated say 250000

How can I achive it ? pleaes help .

Seems interesting. Actually displaying the update progress based on number of records is quite difficult, as the update operation will takes place at the back-end and display status will be at the client (browser). Instead, you can try to set some progress bars to show the progress.
